Name: Airy
Door: Door Pass.

Canon: Bravely Default
Canon Point: Post Game

Age: 111 Million Years and counting...yeah I know it's ridiculous.
Appearance: Normal Form Monstrous Form Final True Form

History: Game Overview Airy Specific
Personality:

NEGATIVE

EQUIVOCATOR:

Airy is, at her core, a liar. While she may appear sweet and harmless at first glance, she lives up to the reputation fairies have in traditional folklore, which is they're never to be trusted. Posing as an innocent companion throughout most of the game to Agnès, this so-called cryst fairy spends the entire journey never really giving straight answers, omitting truths or just flat out lying to the rest of the party. Her supposed goal is to help Agnès, a vestal of the wind crystal, awaken the four elemental crystals across the world through prayer. By awakening the crystals the world will be returned to its former glory, or so Airy claims. Cataclysmic events have been shaking the globe as the crystals lie dormant and tainted and so, according to Airy, the only way to reverse this is to awaken their power. It comes out later on that she's never really done this before (a lie) and that she isn't certain that awakening the crystals will fix the world's problems.

In fact, it's the exact opposite. By awakening the crystals and harnessing their energy, Airy plans on continuing on her path of destruction, by linking the energy of every world she visits, ultimately to be sacrifices to her creator Oroborus. She's playing a long con too, considering she's been at it for millennia, dimension and timeline hopping to complete her task. If all goes as planned, Oroboros will invade the Celestial Realm through the power of all the worlds Airy links to transform it into a realm of complete and utter chaos.

While Airy ultimately lies and deceives everyone in the party, the person she betrays the most is her companion Agnès. It's true that Airy does have a soft spot for the wind vestal, but ultimately sees her as simply a necessary pawn to control and manipulate. Every word, every bit of guidance and reassurance she's offered to the girl ends up twisted, with half truths about the actual state of the world and what needs to be done fueling Agnès belief not only in herself but how things ought to be. It's by lying to Agnès constantly and never truly being direct with her that Airy manages to use the vestal's power to her advantage and ultimately to work toward bringing about the realms destruction, much to Agnès horror.

Lastly, if one needed any more proof of her deceptive ways, it's right in the title of the game itself. The full title of Bravely Default comes with the subtitle "Where The Fairy Flies" or in Japan simply "Flying Fairy". After a certain point in the game, the title screen boasting the title of the game, simply drops the 'F's in Japan's version to get "Lying Airy". The English title does something similar, highlighting only 'Airy Lies' in white while the rest of the sentence fades to red. The developers thought it'd be funny - after all the biggest spoiler of the game is her deception.

CRITICAL:

If there's one thing Airy hates, it's not getting her own way. She's a downright brat at times, especially if one gets on her bad side, and for a being who seemingly detests children, she sure acts childish if she isn't catered to. She's very particular about who she keeps in her company and who she'll put up with, and if she doesn't like you, she'll make that well known. Tiz and Ringabel, especially the latter, come under fire from her for remarks or choices they make that she doesn't approve of. Ringabel usually, more than anyone else, ends up being the person who gets the brunt of her attitude the most. In Airy's defense he's usually being a lady's man or getting too close to figuring out her true intentions when she chews him out, but even so there's a surprising amount of bite in such a petite being and an endless supply of criticism.

Walking to slow or fast? She'll complain. Not praying hard enough to awaken the crystal? Do better, pray harder. Wanting to pray as a duo to awaken the crystal? No, absolutely not! Want to make a detour to go help someone or maybe rest a bit? Come on! Those crystals won't awaken themselves and why do you need to rest? Why bother helping that person? There are more important things to do!

PROUD:

For such a relatively petite creature, Airy's being is chocked full of pride. She's haughty and acts like a know-it-all, demanding respect from everyone she meets. She's a cryst fairy, after all, and such a being should be revered and respected for the important duty they hold toward the crystals. For those that defer to her judgement and listen to everything she has to say, she's quite darling and kind - for those that question her or her guidance she's a nightmare to deal with.

It's not surprising however that she's as proud as she is, considering the source of her existence. Her creator is an all-powerful, godlike, malevolent being, who she is more than happy to serve. Having been fashioned and given life by him, she in turn received some of his power. Airy may not be a god by any means, but she is awfully powerful when she wants to be. She's existed for so long and has seen so much over the years that to her she's unstoppable. It's this arrogant pride that ends up ultimately being her downfall, as she underestimates her ex-companions' strength and is defeated by them. They don't manage to kill her, however, and Airy, in all her hubris, asks Oroborus to give her more power - only for him to devour her.

POSITIVE

PERSISTENT:

If there's one thing that Airy is it's persistent. She's driven, above all else, to complete the task she set out to do (even if said task is uh, destroy worlds) and it doesn't matter how many millennia it takes to do so or how many dimensions are destroyed in the process. She's quite determined to see everything she put into motion through till the end. She puts up with a lot to achieve her goals, or rather the goals of her maker, as she follows Tiz, Ringabel, Edea and Agnès on their journey to awaken the elemental crystals scattered around the world. If Airy had it her way, it would've only been Agnès she was putting up with, but as their journey progresses, much to Airy's displeasure, the other three end up tagging along. As much as this may potentially throw a wrench into Airy's plans, especially with Ringabel being close at hand (as an alternate version of him knows she's downright evil), she diligently guides the group along to each of the four crystals in an effort to awaken them.

One could call her calculating, what with how she has contingency plans for any scenario that might arise and even has ways to talk herself out of being suspected of being anything but benign. When Agnès wants to do things differently from the plan set out by Airy, especially when it comes to matters of the crystals, the fairy always has some excuse or reason to do things her way. Sure, she's an utterly manipulative being and there's no denying as much, but one has to give her credit for how dedicated and determined she is to get what she wants.

Time isn't a matter of concern for Airy, as she's been around for over 111 million years. When, in one outcome of the game's story, one of the crystals is destroyed, she comments that she'll have to wait another 5000 years to make another attempt at her plans. For anyone that's quite a long time to put one's nefarious plans on hold, but for Airy it's a minor setback. No matter what sort of trouble might come her way she doesn't let it get the best of her. There's always a way to solve problems or to weasel one's way out of trouble and Airy never gives up on moving forward toward getting what she wants.

Powers and Abilities:

- Elemental magic (Fire, Lightning, Earth, Water, Air, Ice...you get the gist.)

- Binding magic (in the sense she can cause someone to freeze in one spot for a short period of time)

- Poisonous magic

- Healing/Regenerative magic

- Charm magic (causes those who are afflicted to do things for the caster, going so far as to harm those who may try to do harm the caster)

- Instill a temporary feeling of dread in others

- Not only is she capable of casting magic with poisonous effects to it, Airy herself as a fairy is to some degree poisonous. When one town in the game makes hairpins out of fairy wings, those women who wear the pins for a prolonged period of time end up going utterly mad. It comes to light that fairies are known to have their wings secrete a fluid that brings out a person's desires, corrupting them in the process. Extended contact with the wings in such a fashion, especially to one's scalp, would bring about detrimental effects.

- Levitation magic

- She can also fly and makes shimmery sounds when fluttering all over the place

- She is also capable of shifting into a more fully human sized form when convenient and also a nasty giant bug form...yeah. Sexy.

Note: Airy doesn't use most of her magic often, unless you're fighting her in game (probably because it's effort). The same would be true in Duplicity - she would use it sparingly/cautiously. Any magic that would affect other characters (such as charm or binding magic for example) would only be used in threads with prior permission.
